Dean Nelson

Having grown up in a household where music was very much king, Dean was spoon fed everything from Sparks to Sinatra on a daily basis. Another distinct advantage was having a brother 9 years older than himself whos records  would very often be 'borrowed' in order to compile mixtapes which would be played at the local youth club. The popularity of his mixtapes inspired a young Mr Nelson, and he would more often than not be found on a Saturday in his element whilst digging through piles of vinyl in Grouchos, The Record Exchange, Bruces or Chalmers & Joy forever in search of hidden gems.

Post Punk and Ska, Dean found himself drawn like a moth to a light by the new emerging sounds of artists such as Run DMC and Coldcut, hot on the heels of which he was blown away by the advent of Acid House, and a deep long lasting love affair with the music and it's culture began.

Consumed by the sights and sounds he had witnessed at nights such as Flotation, Roxannes and Eclipse, Dean headed for Ibiza in 1992 and his fate was sealed. Immediately on his return (and much to the annoyance of his neighbours) he got his first set of decks  and  set about mastering the art of mixing, playing to anyone who would listen. He was given his first break when asked if he would play some tunes at a 'wee after hours party' at the now legendary 'Coffee Pot', following which he could regularly be found spinning at venues such as The Purple Rooms, Fat Sams, The Edge and the Tay Hotel to name but a few.

In 2000 Dean decided the time was right to hang up the headphones, as 9 consecutive Ibiza summers and 10 years of partying hard had taken it's toll. He could no longer identify with what had now become 'clubbing incorporated' along with the seemingly endless flow of mass produced music which would cynically describe itself as 'house' or 'dance' - it was over.

After 8 years of self imposed exile Dean began to feel the fire burning again and yearned to dust off the headphones just one more time. As fate would have it, a chance meeting with his old friend & fellow DJ Baxter Park Sunbather happened soon after, and joined by John Burns Going Back To Our Roots was born.

The rest as they say is history........
